Year of Service
December 2016 #DoTheRightThing
The first event of our year of service was a humble beginning to what we have planned next. With Do The Right Thing Toy Drive, we were able to collect and buy enough toys to bless 3 classrooms full of pre-k students. We were also able to give a class of 1st graders school supplies and toys. All other supplies collected were donated directly to the students of East Iberville Elementary.
January 2017 #SchoolDaze
During our time working in the Baton Rouge community we noticed a common struggle faced by parents and teachers were having school supplies for their students. So in January of 2017 we set out to invest in twenty students outside of those that we see on a daily basis. We collected supplies the entire month of January and were able to gift 45 students with notebooks, paper, pens, and markers. This supply drive was small compared to what we have planned for August of this year. Stay tuned for more Year of Service events!
February 2017 #ADifferentWorld
We look to inspire the children in our communities on a daily basis. In an effort to keep this inspiration going we are bringing a group of high school students to the African American Culture Center(AACC) on the campus of Louisiana State University. To get the experience of a black college student on the campus of a predominately white institution. We were able to welcome the East Acension High men's basketball team to campus for the event. Above are a few pictures of the day the men got to experience a short organization fair starting some of LSU's premiere black organizations;Black Male Leadership Initiative, Minority Women's Movement, Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alpha as well as the LSU chapter of NAACP. The day ended with words from LSU Alumni Chelsea Leblanc & Marlon Green we thank everyone that took time out of their busy schedule to make Sunday a special day.
MAY 2017 #SuccessByAnyMeansNecessary
During the month of May we put on an essay contest for high school students across the country. The required essay must be one page on the topic of defining their path to success. The essay submissions were hard to choose between but we will publish the winners here soon. Thanks to everyone that participated and helped spread the word.
AUGUST 2017 #IGotTheHookup
This August we gave away 125+ backpacks with school supplies to students in the Baton Rouge,Lafayette,Alexandria, New Orleans area. The giveaway is inspired by the number of students that could not be serviced during our initial school supply drive. We are going to collect funds and donations of backpacks to give to students in need. We appreciate all the individuals, organizations, and businesses that donated.
SEPTEMBER 2017 #IHaveADreamEssayContest
The I Have A Dream Essay Contest is a 1 page essay for High School students to express their life long dream and how they will accomplish it. We must encourage our students to not only dream big but set big goals never and never be afraid to achieve.
October 2017 #ScaryMovie
Our first installment of Scary Movie was created to reward the after school tutoring classes of East Iberville Elementary. The program is designed to relieve the stress of a group of hard working students before EOC testing. We brought art supplies, pizza, and footballs to entertain the students. This was the first but not the last we are always looking a group of outstanding students to reward for their hard work.
